Our Field Trips

ReLeaf Petaluma runs small field trips for our volunteers to increase their understanding and knowledge of native trees and native plant communities, and to better do our work. Our field trips have included a visit to Casa Grande High School to see the native habitat orchestrated by former science teacher and current chair of the City of Petaluma's Tree Committee, John Schribbs. Another day we explored Petaluma's new riverfront park, Steamer Landing, which has incredible potential as habitat matures. We were fortunate to visit Helen Putnam Park with Hattie Brown, Sonoma County Park's resource manager, who showed us some of the restoration being done there. Even some of us long timers learned new things about Petaluma as we familiarized ourselves with the Lynch Creek trail to look at possible planting sites.

Coming up we have plans to get inspired by visiting urban forests including the valley oaks at Santa Rosa Junior College, the redwood grove along Rohnert park expressway, as well as natural habitats such as the blue oak woodland at Novato's Rush Creek Preserve. Other potential trips include visits to the Pepperwood Preserve and the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center.

Contact us if you would like to join our field trips, every one is welcome...as are field trip ideas!
